Family Literacy Morning:  Thursday, June 11
The purpose of this morning is to give you a glimpse of our literacy program; to share how you can support literacy at home; and most importantly, to give your children an opportunity to celebrate their hard work. Our Library Media Specialist, Lori Staltari, and our reading specialists, Pat DiFranco, Susan Borges, and Diane Maloy will share how to best support literacy at home. Below please find the schedule and an overview of the presentations that will be made in the library.  

Please note that the third grade students will present on a different day. They are working hard on a special production that integrates literacy in the most original way.  More details will be coming from the Third Grade Team.

8:45-9:30:  
  • K-2:  Parents will visit the classrooms
  • Parents with children in grades 3-5 are invited to the library to attend presentations given by our Library Media and Reading Specialists.

9:35-10:20:  
  • Grades 4 and 5:  Parents will visit the classrooms  
  • Parents with children in grades k-2 are invited to the library to attend presentations given by our Library Media and Reading Specialists in the library .    

Literary Workshops           

Lori Staltari, the library media specialist, will give an overview of the library curriculum, which:
  • Provides opportunities for students become lifelong learners who can independently access, evaluate, and use information.
  • Promotes literacy and reading.
  • Provides instruction in the use of information technology and search strategies.
  • Extends the classroom curriculum through collaboration with teachers, district  library media specialists, and the Winchester Public Library Children’s Room librarians.
  • Emphasizes current technology and services to assist students in becoming proficient users of information.

The reading teachers will be available to:
  • Explain and/or clarify how literacy instruction is delivered in Muraco School classrooms.
  • Talk about how the parent teacher connection can be a powerful way to support maximum literacy learning for each student.
  • Address important topics such as the value of reading and enjoying literature at home with your child, reading and learning with informational texts, and using technology to support literacy at home.
